About Dirt Shapes

On the weekends you can probably find me racing enduro.

Lil’ Bob. The small, but mighty machine.

Hi, my name is Kory Buck, owner and operator of Dirt Shapes. After 10-plus years of professional trail building, I decided to offer my services as an independent trail building contractor and founded Dirt Shapes in 2021. Throughout my career, I’ve led trail crews, maintained a 100-mile bike trail network, built bike park features, and worked for other contractors like myself in Vermont. I’ve loved every bit of it.

My passion for trail building stems from my love of riding my bike and being outdoors. As a kid, I raced BMX and my dad built our local track in Southern Vermont. We would change the track regularly and I found I really enjoyed the process — a feeling that has stuck with me over the years.

I currently own and operate a small 1.5 ton Bobcat 418 mini excavator. The 418 produces trails with a hand-built feel, but with the speed and efficiency advantages of a machine. Its size also minimizes my environmental and literal footprint — I don’t need a big truck to haul it, it doesn’t burn as much fuel as a bigger machine, and it keeps the trail corridor tight while disturbing less soil. Overall, I believe the 418 allows me to create better trails that are more fun to ride.
